One More Egg

This plan shape is quickly becoming one of my most popular small wave designs for either quads or tri fins. Damon wanted an all around board with lots of curve and this fit the bill. He also chose to go with 5 boxes so he could switch his fin set up. The color scheme is cool and seemed appropriate for this time of year.

I like that template. Any in the 7'2" range you could post for us?

Hey Ward -

How well do these things drive off the back foot?

Thanks for your interest in that template in a 7'2". I have mostly been doing these in 6'6" and below. I'll have to look back in my photo archives to see what I've got in the bigger size.

Matt, with the round pin you get a real smooth carving feel. Most people agree that a tri fin gives you a more stable feel backside. And the quad set up gives you heaps of skate with plenty of grip. Your drive off the back foot can be tailored to the fins you use.

How similar is this design to a Pumpkin Seed?

I've been interested in that shape but not in the surftech material. A custom would be cool.

Jdog, no doubt the current boards I'm doing are inspired by the pumpkin seed design. However, the pumpkin seeds were originally designed as thrusters so their tails are a bit pulled in in the back third of the board. What I've done is add more width and curve to the wide point and tail. This makes the board more balanced and better suits the board if you choose to run the fins as a quad. Here's a comparison:
6'2" pumpkin seed: 14 1/2 x 19 3/4 x 14 1/2
6'2" ward coffey: 14 1/2 x 20 x 15

Ward,

Thanks for the info and details. Think I'll try to sell an old board and possibly order one up. Do you have to do anything special or compromise when you go with the 5-fin box option?
thanks again.

Jdog, I typically set the boards up as a thruster in the "default" mode. The quad boxes simply compliment the arrangement.
